Classical Bookworm Comes to Blogger!

Welcome to the new Classical Bookworm at Blogger! After years of frustration with Typepad I have finally abandoned ship and established a new home at Blogger. I’m absolutely thrilled to be here. Setting up this blog has made me realize how much potential this platform has, and with Google behind it I think I can count on Blogger to deliver the kind of innovative features we webheads crave.

Speaking of Google innovations, I couldn’t have made the move without Googlecode’s blog conversion tool. Actually there are several, but I (obviously) used the one to convert from Typepad to Blogger. The only hard part was tidying up my Typepad export file—updating image links, fixing formatting, and removing extraneous material. Editing this file was an unholy bushwhack through Devil’s club in a blackfly-infested swamp until I discovered Notepad++. Unlike Notepad, Wordpad, and Word, Notepad++ didn’t mess with the file encoding and so didn’t cause problems down the line. In fact it was a dream to use, which is not surprising because it was designed just for this sort of work. Countless thanks to the good people at SourceForge.net for making it available.

The beautiful template came from OurBlogTemplates.com, and I’m grateful to the all-knowing interwebs for supplying various bits of code I needed to tweak the template just the way I like it. I should also thank Stefanie for some very astute design advice, and the Extremely Fluffy Cat for providing stress reduction when I was lost in a forest of CSS and XML. The soundtrack for my labours was provided by J.S. Bach.

Now that the formalities are over, how about a little entertainment? I’ve posted this before, but with the Confederations Cup. going on right now it seems appropriate to bring it back. Oee Hellas Ole Ole!
