DIY Bookmarks

I recently received my 2009 Reading Woman wall calendar and noticed that I still had my 2007 edition kicking around. I am always reluctant to recycle beautiful calendars, but it occurred to me that there is a way to preserve a calendar's beauty in a useful way. I took the back cover of my old calendar, which has thumbnails of the artwork for each month, and cut it up into bookmarks. Nothing could be simpler! I used a rotary cutter, ruler, and mat, but a good pair of scissors or a craft knife would do the job as well. They might be too big for some books but there is room for trimming. This could be done with most calendars, since they usually have thumbnails on the back, but the artwork from this calendar lends itself particularly well to living inside of books. Now I'll have other reading women for company as I journey through my books!
