First Lines Meme

I saw this meme over at Incurable Logophilia. The idea is to post the first sentence of each month from your blog. Here goes:

January: It begins... (how appropriate)

February: Thanks to Gardner's Art Through the Ages I now know why the lamassus (human-headed winged bulls or lions) I saw as a kid at the British Museum and Louvre have five legs (they were made to look "right" from the front or the side but not from an angle).

March: Yes, I'm afraid it's another Bible post.

April: Check out this amazing animation of the Bayeux Tapestry.

May: Get Caught Reading literacy campaign (preceded by a picture of Gloria Estefan reading Don Quixote)

June: Separated at birth? (worth revisiting)

July: OK, can we get back to the soccer now?

August: "...it was not very wonderful that Catherine, who had by nature nothing heroic about her, should prefer cricket, baseball, riding on horseback, and running about the country at the age of fourteen, to books—or at least books of information—for, provided that nothing like useful knowledge could be gained from them, provided they were all story and no reflection, she had never any objection to books at all. "

September: "Pour mon Âme" - La Fille du Regiment - Donizetti (preceded by a video of Pavarotti singing a whole slew of high C's)

October: FIFA has handed out their awards for the best players and teams of the 2007 Women's World Cup.

November: I happened into a book store today and the spirit of Chilean literature led me to a copy of The Poetry of Pablo Neruda.

December: "His nature was too large, too ready to conceive regions beyond his own experience, to rest at once in the easy explanation, 'madness,' whenever a consciousness showed some fullness and conviction where his own was blank."

Anyone else want to play?
