I've mentioned before how I like little books. Well, today the good folks at Canada Post brought me seven of them. Six belong to a boxed set of Jane Austen's novels published by CRW Publishing. CRW publishes lovely little hardcover volumes with gilt edges, ribbon bookmarks, and very nice paper and print. They are about 4" by 6", and so fit very nicely in the hand. The Austens are also illustrated with delicate line drawings, a nice bonus. I guess now I'll just have to read them all again.
The other little book I got was the new Loeb Classical Library Reader. I didn't realize it was so small when I ordered it—it's also about 4"x6"—but it contains numerous selections from great Greco-Roman literature spanning 12 centuries. All the big names are there, and many others I've never heard of. Like all Loeb Classical Library books, it has the Greek or Latin on the left and English translation on the right. This is my first venture in to Classical territory so it's quite exciting. First stop: the cave of the Cyclops!
