That's the Way the Weenie Wobbles

That was my dad's consoling remark after Mexico lost to Argentina today. Mexico dominated the first half but then lost their attack and couldn't get near the net. Neither could Argentina—they won on a fantastic volley from distance in extra time. It could have gone either way (as the statistics show), but Argentina has been more consistent this tournament and I can't deny (painful though it may be) that they won fair and square. It was expected to be a very exciting game between teams with similar styles and it certainly delivered. Argentina meets Germany next, and whoever wins that has a good chance of ending up in the final.

Mexican sign language

Just to continue the lesson on football sign language, here we see the diversity of possible reactions to your team missing a chance to score. I count five different variations: over the mouth, the eyes, the forehead, on the head, and behind the head (eye-roll optional). To communicate more complex information across languages, there is now Socceranto.
